Le Naiads

Naiads are a type of Nymph associated with freshwaters such as rivers, waterfalls, streams, and lakes. Naiads like most Nymphs are minor nature goddesses/deities and of course descend from the gods, in their case freshwater deities such The Potamoi (River Gods). They are assigned to take care of and maintain their area of nature. Typical of Nymphs their lives are tied to the area of nature they are associated with, living and dying with their freshwater and possessing the fragility of humans. Individual Naiads include Daphne , Minthe , Glaucia, and Salmacis. Naiads can often be found in the particular freshwater they originate from.

Types of Naiad[]

There are various sub types of Naiad such as the Crinaeae/Naiads of fountains, Eleionomae/Naiads of wetlands and marshes, Limnades/Naiads of lakes, Pegaeae/Naiads of springs, Potameides/Naiads of rivers, Tagides/ Naiads of the Tagus river.

  • Naiads are very agile and quick when swimming in water.
  • Some of the naiads have scales and gills in order to breathe underwater like mermaids.
  • They can also create water, and control it from a far distance.
  • They can live in water and on ground.
