Genealogy and Family[]

Theia is the daughter of Gaia, the primordial goddess of the earth and Uranus, the primordial god of the sky. Her siblings are the fellow Twelve Titans, The Hecatonchieres, The Meliae, The Cyclopes, The Gigantes, Aitna and The Erinyes. Theia married her brother, Hyperion, the Titan god of light and had three children with him: Helios, the Titan god of the Sun, Selene, the Titan goddess of the moon and Eos, the Titan goddess of the dawn. She is a grandmother to Phaethon, Electryone, The Heliades, The Heliadae, Phaethusa, Lampetia, Thersanon, Aeetes, Pasiphae, Perses, Circe, The 50 daughters of Selene and Endymion, Ersa, Pandeia, The Anemoi (Wind Gods), Astraea, The Stars, Memnon and Emaithon.

Role and Significance[]

Theia is the Titan goddess of sight, brilliance, divine light as well as the light of the blue sky. Theia brought the gift of sight to humanity. It was also believed that the light from her eyes would allow people to see their destinies. Theia is also known for providing radiance to gold, silver and gems. She is also an oracular goddess being gifted with the ability to predict the future.

As a Titan Goddess, Theia has: eternal youth, immortality and perfect health having immunity to any diseases and illnesses, she is also self-healing and does not require sleep. Unique skills and abilities to Theia include:

Gaia- Gaia is Theia's mother

Uranus- Uranus is Theia's father.

Hyperion- Hyperion is Theia's fellow Titan, brother and husband, with him she had Helios, Selene and Eos.

Helios- Helios is the only son of Theia and Hyperion and by most accounts her first born child.

Selene- Selene is Theia's second child and eldest daughter.

Eos- Eos is Theia's youngest child and second daughter.

The symbol of Theia is her eyes.

Other Names[]

Other names for the goddess were: Aithrê meaning 'blue sky, aether', Euryphaessa meaning 'wide-shining' and Ikhnaiê meaning 'tracing, tracking'.

Trivia[]

Theia's official Greek name is Θεια. It means 'sight, prophecy'.

Theia's sisters Themis and Phoebe are also prophetic goddesses.
